Local Author Raising Money and Awareness for Diabetes

Local Baldwin Park area author Ruben Sarmiento is trying to raise money and awareness for the disease Diabetes, from which he suffers from and has for nearly six years. When he was sixteen years old he was diagnosed with the disease. Shortly there after he began to write his now published book "Weapon X" "The Past Cannot be Forgotten". He used the book as a new beginning in his life and now with the book in publication, he is using it as a platform to raise money and awareness of the disease he has been living with for nearly six years. Ruben has pledged to donate a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of "Weapon X" to the American Diabetes Association.

There are four major types of diabetes, type 1, type 2, Pre-Diabetes, gestational diabetes. 5 to 10 percent of people with diabetes have type one, most Americans have type two. About 4 percent have Gestational diabetes. Pre-Diabetes is a condition where the blood sugar levels are higher then normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as Type 2. Some of the symptoms of diabetes are: frequent urination, excessive thirst, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss, increased fatigue, blurry vision, irritability.

If a person has one or more of these symptoms they should be checked out by a doctor.His story was featured on YAHOO News back in December and since then he has been determined to raise as much money as possible through the sale of his book "Weapon X", which for Ruben represents a new beginning in his life.
